Miss Kasey Leighty is currently in her third year of teaching in the Scottsdale Unified School district. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 2021 after her student teaching in Tucson Arizona under the mentorship of Miranda DeBretto. During her collegiate time, Miss Leighty taught private lessons alongside working with the UoA New Horizons band. She interned at Greenway Middle School in the Paradise Valley School District in her first two years of college helping to support the classroom teacher in creating a positive and growth mindset classroom. She has worked with many high schools across the state including Coronado high school and Agua Fria high school as a brass and marching technician. Miss Leighty has always had a passion for music and trumpet playing as she started playing at the young age of eight years old. Miss Leighty fell in love with band and music much like many students do; in the public school system. She continued her entire time in public school and even into high school marching band as the drum major. She has had many great teachers including: Bill Humbert at Glendale Community College, Jason Carder and Ed Reid at the University of Arizona and, David Hickman at Arizona State University. Miss Leighty continues to perform as a soloist and as a part of community groups like the Fountain Hills Community Band and the ASU Maroon and Gold bands. She aspires to produce a life long love and appreciation for music in her students from a young age, and believes that more general music representation in our state and music organizations are important.

Miss Kasey Leighty is currently serving as a member-at-large on the Arizona Society for General Music (AZGM). Learn more about music education in Arizona at the AMEA website and the AZGM website.
